Attorney Joshua P. Clayton, of the Clayton Law Firm, located in Slidell, Louisiana, has practiced law in Louisiana since 2012. Josh graduated summa cum laude at the top of his class, was elected a member of the Order of the Coif, and received a Juris Doctorate degree and a Diploma of Civil Law from the Paul M. Hebert Louisiana State University Law Center in 2011. While studying at the LSU Law Center, Josh served for two years on the Louisiana Law Review and was a Senior Editor on the Volume 71 Board of Editors. During that time, Josh worked as a research assistant for Professors George W. Pugh and Frank L. Maraist. The Louisiana Law Review published Josh’s article, “The Louisiana ‘Explanatory Exception’: Faithfulness to Louisiana’s Hearsay Framework or Mere Storytime with the Prosecution?”, 71 La. L. Rev. 1259 (2011). Josh received the CALI Award for Excellence in law school courses in Legal Traditions & Systems, Torts, Contracts, Legal Research & Writing II, Obligations, Administration of Criminal Justice I, Basic Civil Procedure II, Civil Law Property, Constitutional Law I, Constitutional Law II, Evidence, Jurisprudence, Conflict of Laws, Corporate Finance, and Louisiana Security Devices Survey.
From 2011 to 2012, Josh clerked for the Honorable Carl J. Barbier, United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Louisiana. Upon entering private practice in 2012, Josh was an associate with a medium-sized New Orleans law firm, where he represented a diverse clientele ranging from national companies to local governments. Josh has practiced in several areas of the law, including commercial litigation, personal injury, state, local, and municipal law, products liability, construction, contractual and insurance disputes, and constitutional disputes.
Josh is admitted to practice law in the United States Supreme Court, the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of Louisiana, and all state, local, and municipal courts of Louisiana. He has handled legal matters in multiple courts in Louisiana and has argued before the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Louisiana Fourth Circuit Court of Appeal. He is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA), member of the LSBA House of Delegates representing the Twenty-Second Judicial District Court, member of the Louisiana Association of Christian Lawyers, and President of the Greater Slidell Bar Association.
